- Procedure:
Step 1: The person requesting confirmation of Vietnamese origin submits the application directly at the Reception and Result Return Department of the Department of Justice where they reside (address: 141-143 Pasteur, Ward 6, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) or by postal mail, from Monday to Friday (morning from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, afternoon from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM), and Saturday morning (from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM).
Step 2: The Reception and Result Return Department of the Department of Justice receives the application, checks the validity and completeness of the documents in the application:
For direct submission:
- If the application is complete and valid according to regulations, a receipt will be issued.
- If the application is incomplete or invalid, the designated staff will provide written guidance to the applicant on how to supplement and complete the documents according to regulations.
For submission via postal mail:
- If the application is complete and valid, it will be processed according to regulations. If incomplete or invalid, the applicant will be invited to provide the necessary documents as required.
Step 3: Within 5 working days from the date of receiving a complete and valid application, the Department of Justice will review the documents presented by the applicant and cross-check the relevant database or nationality documents (if available). If it is determined that the person has Vietnamese origin, a Certificate of Vietnamese Origin will be issued. If the application is rejected, a written notice will be provided, including the reason for refusal.
Step 4: The applicant should return to the Reception and Result Return Department of the Department of Justice on the date specified on the receipt to collect the result.

- Certified copy or a photo copy with the original for comparison of documents proving that the person once held Vietnamese nationality, determined according to the principle of descent (from a parent, grandparent, etc., who held Vietnamese nationality).
- Additional related documents for reference:
- Certified copy or a photo copy with the original for comparison of identity, civil status, or nationality documents as stipulated in Clause 2, Article 9 of Circular No. 05/2010/TTLT/BTP-BNG-BCA.
- A guarantee letter from a Vietnamese community organization in the country where the applicant is residing, confirming the person’s Vietnamese origin.
- A guarantee letter from a Vietnamese citizen, confirming the applicant’s Vietnamese origin.
- Certified copy or a photo copy with the original for comparison of foreign-issued documents confirming Vietnamese nationality or Vietnamese origin.
- Proof of residence issued by the local police authority. If the person has a household registration or permanent residence card, they must provide a certified copy or photo copy with the original for comparison.

4. Processing time: 5 working days from the date of receiving a complete and valid application.
